Convicted girl clears Board exam in Tripura

AGARTALA, June 9 � Not every year does a convicted person clinch position among successful candidates of board exam but results of this year�s Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) was different for the inmates of Central Jail here.

Three convicted persons � Bandana Patra (24), Rajesh Debbarma and Paltan Debbarma � took the examination this year and all of them have successfully cleared their board examinations.

Bandana, who has been languishing in rigorous imprisonment for 20 years for murdering her sister in law has cleared her Madhyamik examination with 309 marks. Though, Bandana, a resident of Amatali did not do well, she wants to continue her study to do better in the days to come.

�She came to the Women cell at Central Jail on December 15, 2007 soon after the announcement of the verdict. She is good not only in study but also in mixing up with the other inmates of the jail as well prison staff. In fact, she made us proud by clearing her board examination�, said a Prison official here today.

Another inmate � Rajesh also made the Central Jail proud. Rajesh, who has been serving eight years rigorous imprisonment in connection with a kidnapping case, have secured 274 marks in his board examination.

�Rajesh hailing from Kalyanpur in West district landed in the Central Jail on November 11, 2001 after being pronounced the verdict of a kidnapping case is very cooperative with Prison staff�, he said.

However, Paltan Debbarma topped the list among the successful inmates of the Central Jail with 315. All of them complimented the Jail authority for rendering all possible help to carry out their studies.

The handicapped students also did well in the Madhyamik examination. Of the total 16 candidates, ten examinees have cleared their board examination while two physically-challenged candidates have bagged first division giving a message that they are at par with the others when it comes to talent.

The overall pass-percentage of this year�s Madhyamik examinations is 60.05 per cent, about two per cent increase when compared with last year, according to the results declared here on Wednesday.
