GUWAHATI, March 9 - The Forum Against Citizenship Act Amendment Bill will hold a State-level convention on March 11 at the Lakhiram Barua Sadan here on the stand to be taken by the people of Assam during the next Lok Sabha elections to oust the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power. The convention will start at 11 am. The convention is billed as Oust BJP to save Assam, country and democracy.
The forum said in a statement here today that if the BJP is allowed to come back to power with its autocratic and communal policies, the party will make the countrys future gloomy. The party even after its failure to pass the Citizenship Act (Amendment) Bill, 2016 in the Parliament in the face of stiff opposition from the States people and the opposition parties, has been repeatedly asserting that it would get the Bill passed if re-elected to power.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, apart from the leaders of the State unit of the party, have been openly making such assertions.
Besides, the party and its government have also been violating the Constitution of the country, throwing the democratic values to the wind in a Hitlerite manner, indulging in appalling politics in the name of religion, destroying the very structure of the countrys economy, among others, with their wicked policies, the forum said.
