DHUBRI, Dec 3 - While addressing a programme organised jointly by Dhubri and Fakirganj branch of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Sahitya Akademi awardee Jayanta Madhab Bora advocated due recognition of sor sapori people in the development of Assamese language.
The Sahitya Akademi awardee attended the seminar in order to discuss the contributions of sor sapori people towards Assamese language. The function was organised by the literary body to pay homage to renowned novelist, Late Mamoni Raisom Goswami.
Bora, while stressing on his point in the seminar which was presided over by the president of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi, stated that, �there is not even a single Bengali medium school in the sor areas of the State. They are Assamese by blood and proudly give their identity as Assamese�.
�The people in these places live by the teachings of Azan Fakir and Sayed Abdul Malik and their contribution to the social, cultural and literary development of Assamese language is huge,� said the Sahitya Akademi awardee. �The language will survive only in the hands of sor sapori people� he added.
The programme was recently organised at the Hamidabad HS School playground in the presence of many members of the literary body from its central committee as well as Dhubri district committee and Fakirganj branch committee respectively.
All the dignitaries during their speeches shed light on the contributions of the sor sapori people towards the Assamese literary field and in the development of the language.
The guests also stated that people of sor sapori areas are no less Assamese than an Assamese living in any part of the State. It is therefore high time that the contributions of these people is recognised and they be welcomed with open arms in the greater interest of survival of the language.
