Contributions of Rohini Medhi recalled

BARAMA, July 8 � Rohini Medhi, who died on June 6 last and was a writer and former president of the All Assam Journalists� Union, was remembered at a public meeting held at Barama by the Baksa Press Club and Barama Sahitya Sabha on July 5.

On the occasion, Girija Medhi lit the ceremonial lamp while Sarat Chandra Medhi paid floral tributes before the portrait of late Medhi.

Dr Hemanta Kumar Dutta, former president of Nalbari district Sahitya Sabha released a souvenir on Medhi�s life and works. Though Medhi hailed from a poor family, he contributed significantly towards journalism and literature. Late Medhi was also a respected teacher, said Dutta.

Former Minister Rekha Rani Das Boro added that Medhi was also a well-known columnist. Associated with various social, cultural and religious organisations, he made valuable contributions for the all-round development of the society.

Former Minister Pabindra Deka said that Rohini Medhi undertook a laudable initiative in this regard and took a leading role in the formation of the All Assam Journalists� Union. He was a man of noble nature and pragmatic perceptions. His sudden death is a great loss for the society.

Former MLA of Barama constituency, Paniram Rava said that Medhi was a journalist who tried to focus on the real picture of the society through his writings.

Chandra Kanta Deka, Madan Chandra Kalita, Somnath Deka, Govinda Kalita, Dilip Kumar Haloi, Ajit Sarma, besides others, spoke in the meeting. Panidhar Deka explained the objectives while Sanjay Kalita presided over the meeting.
