GUWAHATI, Oct 28 The Sanatan Dharmasabha ((Harisabha), one of the oldest socio-cultural heritage institutions of Guwahati celebrated the Durga puja traditionally under the Vedic system. Thousands of devotees thronged this puja pandal. Many spectators enjoyed various cultural programmes like yatra, nagara nam and cultural functions with local artists. This was stated in a press release.
It is worth mentioning that a colourful souvenir Sanatan was also inaugurated on the Mahasaptami day by Umakanta Sarma Sastri, a noted Sanskrit pandit in a well-attended meeting which was presided over by Ashish Sengupta. In his inaugural speech, he lauded the activities of Harisabha and expressed his happiness for upholding the tradition and culture of Harisabha under the present scenario of ever increasing competition for erection of costly pandals and various decorative items, lights etc.
The internationally reputed poet Nileem Kumar and Dr Manjumala Das also spoke a few words in that meeting. The editors of Sanatan, Suresh Ch Bhattacharjya and Kamal Chandra Goswami delivered the objective of the meeting and Sanatan and vote of thanks, respectively.
