Contributions of Dr Ranganathan recalled

DIBRUGARH, Aug 11 - A web talk was organised by Ashwini Charan Choudhury Central Library, DHSK College here on Sunday on the occasion of celebration of the birth anniversary of Padma Shri Dr SR Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia, Principal DHSK College. In his inaugural speech, Dr Saikia said that Dr Ranganathan had shaped the future of library profession with his dedication and untiring efforts towards the institutionalisation of the profession. A mathematician who turned to the profession of librarianship accidentally, he later dedicated his whole life for the profession. He also expressed his happiness in welcoming the participants from different parts of the country to the platform of DHSK College, which is celebrating its 76th year of glorious existence.

One of the speakers on the occasion Dr Pranab Kumar Boruah, former Principal Technical Officer, NEIST and presently associated with Department of Library and Information Science, University of Science And Technology, Meghalaya, spoke on the relevance of Dr SR Ranganathan in the digital environment. The other speaker Dr Mukesh Saikia, Librarian, Tezpur University could not join the programme due to technical problems. The participants took part in interactive sessions with Dr PK Boruah who enlightened the participants with his expertise in the field of electronic resources.
