Contests lined up for Regional Science Centre anniversary

GUWAHATI, March 13 � The Regional Science Centre, Guwahati, is going to celebrate its 16th anniversary on March 15 on the Centre�s premises involving school students and general public.

The Centre has been popularising science through different educational programmes among the people, particularly school-going children, since its inception on March 15, 1994.

The main programmes to be conducted during the anniversary day are as follows:

From 10.30 am, an art competition of one-hour duration will be held among the students of Class I-IV (Group A) on the subject �View of an aquarium with different fishes and aquatic plants�. The subject for Group B (Class V-VII) is �View of the Science Centre�; while an identification contest, �Touch and identify�, will be held among the students of Class VIII-X (Group C).

From 11.30 am, a popular science talk on the topic �Nanomaterials� will be delivered by Prof Barindra Sarma, Department of Physics, Gauhati University. From 12.15 pm, an open house visual quiz contest will be held. The prize distribution ceremony will start at 12.45 pm.

There will be no entry fee. Maximum 15 students from one school can participate in each group of the sit and draw contest. Students have to bring pencil, colour, clipboard, eraser, etc. The drawing sheets will be provided by the Centre.

Gauhati Commerce College festival

Guwahati, March 13 � Gauhati Commerce College commenced its two-day Management Cultural Festival �Quasofiesta-2010� today. The first day�s programme was attended by students from different management colleges and universities. A cultural evening will be held tomorrow, a press release stated.
