Contact [email protected] or call 1098 to report child rights abuse

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 17 - In view of some cases of child rights violation in the State during the ongoing lockdown, the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) has urged the general people to reach out to the Commission or Childline if they notice any such case of child rights violation.

In its appeal, the Commission stated that child sexual abuse, child labour, child marriage or physical abuse of children must be reported by conscious citizens as children are the most vulnerable group in any crisis situation.

During the COVID-19-induced lockdown if one experiences or witnesses any such case, they can reach out to the Commission at [email protected] or can call Childline at 1098. Cases can also be reported through Sishu Suraksha App which can be downloaded on mobile phone.

It needs mention that during the current lockdown, cases of offence against children reported to the Commission included abduction of a minor girl, in which case police officials were initially apprehensive about cooperating with Childline for a rescue operation. However, adequate police support was ensured after the matter was brought to the notice of the ASCPCR.

Another case of rape of a minor girl by a 60-year-old man was also reported. The Commission asked the authorities to register the case under POCSO Act, 2012 along with other sections of IPC, besides directing arrest of the accused.
