GUWAHATI, March 17 � On the occasion of the World Consumer Rights Day, Consumers� Legal Protection Forum, Assam and Grahak Suraksha Santha, Guwahati jointly organised a public awareness programme at Dimoria Aanchalik Panchayat Bhawan, Sonapur near here.

�From your make-up kit to air ticket, you should be aware about your rights as a consumer when you are going to purchase any products or avail any services. To protect your rights as a common consumer, awareness is more fruitful than the law,� said Ajoy Hazarika, advocate of Gauhati High Court and secretary, Consumers� Legal Protection Forum.

Addressing the gathering, Hazarika presented an elaborate idea about the rights entrusted by the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 to the common consumers.

The programme was conducted by Dr Birendra Kumar Das, president Grahak Suraksha Santha, Guwahati.

The local villagers participated in the interactive session and voiced the problems they faced as consumers.

Bharat Saikia, secretary Grahak Suraksha Santha described the aims, objects and purpose of the World Consumer Rights Day which is observed on March 15 every year.

Issues such as delay in availing LPG cylinder, lack of necessary facilities in the local govt. hospital, adulteration in various products and commodities etc. were discussed at length.
