JALUKBARI, May 29 - The Department of Communication and Journalism, Gauhati University, organised a State-level consultation on finalising the digital warehouse design for C4D in Assam in collaboration with UNICEF yesterday in the department premises.

A discussion was held to finalise the design for initiated idea of opening an online portal comprising information and materials for communication for development (C4D) for the first time in the North East.

The idea behind initiation of the portal is to create a platform where authentic information can be accessed without much hassle. The areas to be covered in the portal are education, health, woman and child, disaster and environment, agriculture and rural development and peace and conflict.

The key concerns of the project are to finalise the developing areas, to sort out the materials that are to be made available, to look at the sustainability and update maintenance, and finally to take care of the copyright issues. Considering worldwide attention on development communication, the department takes it as an urgent need of the region to have a common platform for development issues. It was also decided that the portal will be interactive and participatory in nature.

Experts put forward their ideas, queries and suggestions for development of the portal. The discussion helped in bringing out the loopholes in the initial idea.

The aim is to target the journalists who write for development communication with reliable data. The portal will be made user-friendly so that access does not become an issue.
