Constitution Day observed in Hailakandi, Kokrajhar

HAILAKANDI, Nov 26 - Constitution Day was observed in Hailakandi district today.

District Development Commissioner Ranjit Kumar Laskar read out the Preamble to the Constitution of India at a programme held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner�s office.

Officials and employees of the Deputy Commissioner�s office and amalgamated offices took a pledge to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution.

The day was also celebrated at different government and semi-government offices, public sector undertakings, corporations and boards in the district.

It may be mentioned that in 2015, the Narendra Modi government declared November 26 as Constitution Day, also known as National Law Day, to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly in 1949.

It is aimed at reiterating and reorienting the citizens towards the values and principles enshrined in the Constitution and encouraging all Indians to play their rightful role in strengthening the Indian democracy. It also aims to create awareness about the fundamental duties as enshrined in the Constitution.

Our Kokrajhar Correspondent adds: Constitution Day was also observed in Kokrajhar district by different organisations.

It was also observed at the Deputy Commissioner�s office in Kokrajhar.

On the occasion, Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Bhaskar Phukan administered the pledge to the officials and staff.

The Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar also observed the day in a befitting manner.

The Basfore Anusuchit Jati Students� Union too observed the day at Kokrajhar Press Club. Bhim Basfore, president of the union, attended the programme along with others.
