RAHA, June 22 - A 48-year-old police constable committed suicide by shooting himself on Thursday evening at the Amsoi police outpost creating sensation in the locality.

The deceased identified as Harjit Singh was posted at the Amsoi police outpost under Raha PS. According to information, the constable was on night duty when he allegedly shot himself on Thursday evening with a pistol allegedly stealing from it �malkhana� (property room) of the police outpost.

�A gunshot was heard from the police quarters in the evening at around 7.30. Some policemen on duty rushed in and found Harjit lying in a pool of blood. No suicide note was found,� a policeman of the outpost told this correspondent.

�We are trying to ascertain the reason behind his suicide. Prima facie, he was not happy from the last couple of days,� said a police official who reached the spot from Nagaon soon after the incident took place.

The body was later sent for autopsy to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital and his family was informed.

Harjit Singh was a native of Hatipara village in Nagaon. His wife and two children live in the village.
