Conspiracy against Bengali Hindus alleged

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, July 16 - BJP MLA from Silchar Dilip Kumar Paul today accused the State government of hatching a conspiracy against the Bengali Hindus by trying to establish them including his brother as foreigners.

Addressing mediapersons here, Paul said his brother Pradip Kumar Paul and sister-in-law Mitali Paul have been served notices to appear before the foreigners tribunal on July 30, which is nothing short of a vested design of the Tarun Gogoi government to create panic and confusion amongst the Bengali Hindus.

This government is leaving no stone unturned to establish the Bengali Hindus as foreigners even though they migrated decades before 1971, Paul said.

He further said that the development relating to his brother was a serious affair. This is not a matter of joke. We condemn this attitude of the government and I have decided to take legal steps against the department if the issue is not looked into by the government, warned Paul, adding that he has submitted all the relevant documents to the authorities concerned, including BJP national president Amit Shah and State Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia.

Paul informed the media the Chief Secretary had given him his assurance to look into the matter. I have also sought an appointment with the Chief Minister over the issue, divulged Paul.

On the other hand, Paul observed that the Bengali Hindus who had all necessary documents in their favour were being targeted by the Congress government, that had been creating hurdles in the process of NRC update.

It is a political conspiracy against the Hindu Bengalis. I am really shocked on what basis the department served notice to my brother. Since the Chief Minister is in charge of the Home Ministry he cannot shrug off his responsibility from the matter, said Paul, pointing out that thousands of Bengali Hindus in Barak Valley had been served notices and subjected to different forms of harassment.
