By Staff Correspondent

SHILLONG, March 12 - NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Government today won the vote of confidence by voice vote in the Meghalaya Assembly here.

The National Peoples Party (NPP)-led MDA coalition Government has the support of 35 legislators in the House of 60.

During a special session held in the Assembly, the MDA Government sailed through in the trust vote comfortably amidst various challenges.

The CM informed the Opposition that the Government is headed by NPP, which has 19 MLAs and not by any other party. He was replying to a question by former CM Mukul Sangma if the Government is being headed by BJP.

I dont think there should be any doubt on this. Even in the letters of support of the MLAs which was submitted to the Governor all have mentioned that they are expressing their support to NPP-led Government under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma, the Chief Minister said.

Earlier, participating in a discussion over a motion of confidence, moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prestone Tynsong, the former CM said that the House should know clearly which party is heading the MDA Government.

We would like to know whether it is NPP-led Government, BJP-led Government or a conglomeration of party which is leading the Government, Mukul asked.

He said that during the campaign it was made amply clear by the political parties in the State that they had no truck with the BJP. The political parties in their campaigns have promised the people of the State that they will not have any connection with BJP, Mukul said.

He added that although the people had given a fractured mandate, however, it also showed that the mandate was not for BJP. The former CM said it is up to the various political parties to respect the basic principle of the Constitution and respect the mandate of the people.

The MDA coalition Government has two BJP MLAs and one of them AL Hek has been allotted the Health portfolio. The Congress had run a high-pitched campaign against BJP during the election campaign.
