Conrad opens startup summit

SHILLONG, Jan 21 - Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today inaugurated the Meghalaya Entrepreneurship and Startup Summit 2020 at the State Convention Centre here.

On the occasion, Sangma said that about 700 people took part in the E-Book Challenge, adding that such competitions bring out the best in individuals.

The Meghalaya Entrepreneurship and Startup Summit is a culmination of the Chief Minister�s E-Champion Challenge 2019 that was launched on August 14, 2019 by the Chief Minister with the objective of identifying and encouraging potential entrepreneurs from across the State.

The Chief Minister stated that such the E-Challenge would now be made an annual affair as it provides a good ecosystem for entrepreneurs to grow.

Meanwhile, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said it is not established companies, but young entrepreneurs who are finding solutions in the industry these days. He added that if the country wants to find solutions to its problems and create jobs, it is important to promote young entrepreneurs.

Kant said that the NITI Aayog would support the Meghalaya Government with ten incubation centres as there is a need to create a completely new ecosystem for startups.

On Meghalaya�s prospects, Kant said that the State should focus on emerging as the centre of entrepreneurship, high value tourism and organic farming. He assured financial support from the NITI Aayog in this regard.
