SHILLONG, Dec 22 - Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today inspected the Export Promotion Industrial Park (EPIP) at Byrnihat and said that �things are moving in a positive direction� as far as industrial growth in the State is concerned.
Sangma visited the EPIP along with the Industries Minister and the local MLA and visited four units in the park.
�I visited the EPIP to see the work going on there and also the infrastructure� things are moving in a positive direction,� Sangma said.
The CM added that the purpose of the visit was also to see what sort of technologies are used to prevent pollution from the units and in this regard he said that he was satisfied with the infrastructure installed.
Sangma said the visit was also undertaken to see what other industries could be set up so that more jobs could be created for the local youths. �The visit was to see what more could be done for industrial growth so that more jobs can be created,� he added.
There are close to 100 units in the park which have been provided licenses to operate but some are yet to be implemented. Units involved in the production of Ferro Alloy, Calcium Carbide, Copper Rods, TMT bars, besides Packaging and bottling plants are in the park.
The park is spread across an area of 300 acres. All the units are given subsidy under the Meghalaya Industrial Policy, 1997 and Central Government schemes.
