SHILLONG, March 8 - The distribution of portfolios in a coalition government is one the most challenging jobs and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has handled it well up until now.
Sangma holds an MBA (Finance) degree from a B-school in London and quite understandably has kept the Finance portfolio to himself. Sangma has also kept to himself Planning, Personnel, Political, Cabinet Affairs and other portfolios which have not been allotted to any Minister.
Congress rebel and now NPP leader, Prestone Tynsong was allotted PWD (Roads), Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Housing, Parliamentary Affairs and Labour. The other Congress rebels who joined NPP and BJP before the elections were also allotted their portfolios. Sniawbhalang Dhar was allotted Transport, Commerce and Industries, Community and Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation.
Comingone Yambon has been allotted PWD (Buildings), General Administration Department and Fisheries. Another Congress rebel who joined BJP before the elections, AL Hek, has been re-allotted Health and Family Welfare, Information and Public Relations, Arts and Culture.
Home was allotted to Conrad�s brother James Sangma apart from Food and Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, Power, District Council Affairs and Law.
The three UDP MLAs in the Cabinet includes Metbah Lyngdoh, Kyrmen Shylla and Lahkmen Rymbui. Lyngdoh was allotted Water Resources, Tourism, Excise and Home Guards and Civil Defence.
Rymbui was allotted Forest and Environment, Education, Border Area Development. Shylla (29) is the youngest Minister in the MDA Government and was allotted Revenue and Disaster Management, Social Welfare, Printing and Stationery.
Banteidor Lyngdoh from People�s Democratic Front (PDF) party was assigned Agriculture, Horticulture, Sports and Youth Affairs, Sericulture and Weaving portfolios. Hamletson Dohling also from PDF was given Urban Affairs, including Municipal Administration and Information Technology. From Hill State People�s Democratic Party (HSPDP), Samlin Malngiang was allotted PHE, Secretariat Administration and Legal Metrology.
