GUWAHATI, Nov 3 - Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (PMCC) organised a dharna in front of Rajiv Bhawan here today. They were protesting against the arrest of All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice president Rajiv Gandhi while he had gone to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital yesterday in Delhi yesterday. Gandhi went to the RM Lohia Hospital to meet the family members of Ramkrishan Goel, who committed suicide in protest against the alleged failure of the Central Government to implement the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme for the retired soldiers.
The APCC and PMCC members today described the arrest of Gandhi and Sisodia as "undemocratic and inhuman". This act has exposed the despotic character of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Central Government. The protestors also demanded immediate implementation of the OROP.
