Cong would have brought laws to overturn SC verdict: MJ Akbar

SILCHAR, Aug 24 - After the Supreme Court quashed the practice of triple talaq system bringing great joy to the Muslim women of the nation, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, MJ Akbar, said that had the Congress been in power now, it would have done everything to overturn the decision of the Supreme Court.

Akbar was here to attend the mega blood donation camp organised by the BJP Silchar Town and Block Mandal Committee as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi�s vision of New India Manthan 2022. �Had Congress been in power now, it would have initiated laws to overturn the decision of the Supreme Court. It is now spreading misinformation that the ban on triple talaq system is a verdict of the Supreme Court and Government has no role behind the decision,� Akbar was quoted as saying.

Further, Akbar said that the Prime Minister has been striving for women emancipation and creating congenial environment for women since the day he took charge to lead the nation.

Earlier, the Union Minister of State for External Affairs enthused the party workers to give their blood and sweat for the party to accomplish the mission of new India by 2022 as envisioned by the Prime Minister.

On the other hand, the Union Minister also visited the Government Boys� HS School to plant trees and participated in the Swaccha Bharat drive on the school premises.
