Cong worker stabbed by suspected NPP workers

TURA, Feb 5 - A Congress party worker was allegedly stabbed by suspected workers of National People�s Party (NPP) in Charbatapara village under Phulbari constituency in West Garo Hills.

According to the FIR filed by the victim, Congress party members had gone to the village last evening when they came upon some miscreants carrying rods, daggers and other weapons. When they saw the Congress workers, the miscreants charged at them and beat them with their weapons.

One Israful Hoque of Bholarbitha in Chibinang was stabbed in the stomach. He was rushed to Phulbari CHC for treatment and later referred to Goalpara, where he is currently recovering. The others managed to escape.

The incident occurred at about 8.30 pm on Sunday. An FIR was lodged at Phulbari PS yesterday itself. Another worker also suffered injuries.

SP of WGH, Dr MGR Kumar said that an FIR was received and appropriate action would be taken.

Phulbari seat is being contested by Cong candidate and sitting MLA, AT Mondal, SG Esmatur Mominin of NPP, BJP candidate Binoy Ghosh and an independent Mark Goera Marak.
