By Correspondent

HAILAKANDI, Feb 14 The Congress got nine seats in the 16-member Hailakandi Municipal Board, while the BJP got three seats. Independent candidates bagged the rest four seats.

On the other hand, in the 10-member Lala Town Committee, the BJP got five seats, while the Congress got four. One seat went to an Independent candidate.

The Congress will form the Hailakandi Municipal Board and the Lala Town Committee, said former minister and MLA Gautam Roy. He said that the Lala Town Committee would be under the control of the Congress as the lone Independent candidate would join the Congress and the local MLAs vote would be the deciding factor.

Roy maintained that the main task of the board would be to construct roads and drains and ensure the regular supply of drinking water. A big rally was taken out in Hailakandi and Lala towns by the victorious Congress candidates.
