Cong wins 11 seats in Imphal civic polls

IMPHAL, June 7 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the second largest party after the ruling Congress in Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections, the final results of which were declared today.

The party, which had won just one Councillor�s seat in the last IMC elections, bagged as many 10 seats out of 27. They won Ward No. 1, 2, 3, 5, 13, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 25.

The ruling Congress tops the chart with 11 seats (4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 14, 19, 20, 22 and 24) thus emerging as the largest party. Interestingly, Independent candidates have sprung a major surprise, winning five of the wards: 10, 12, 21, 23 and 26. The CPI got just one seat (27). � Correspondent
