AGARTALA, July 6 � Adding more embarrassment for the CPI (M), the Congress looks set to register a specific FIR against Tripura ruling party�s MLA Keshab Debbarma for submitting forged document to the Election Commission.
Few days back, opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman had alleged that the CPM MLA, who represents Golaghati Assembly constituency of Sepahijala district, had filed a fake educational certificate in the affidavit, which is a mandatory provision for a contesting candidate.
At a press conference, the opposition leader had alleged that the affidavits which were filed by the MLA were not only self-contradictory but also fake. According to him, the party wants Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to take action against the MLA.
Based on the media reports, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) SK Rakesh recently exhorted the opposition leader to register a case against the MLA as per the guideline of the Election Commission.
�I will register specific FIR against the MLA within a short period of time as exhorted by the CEO. Besides, a separate case will also be filed against Keshab Debbarma under the People�s Representation Act�, he told media here.
Roy Barman said in the letter issued by the CEO has clearly mentioned the complainant has the absolute right to lodge FIR against the MLA who allegedly used a fake educational certificate in the affidavit submitted along with the nomination paper.
He also alleged the CPM MLA has been trying to prepare a separate affidavit seeking correction in the affidavit filed earlier. �This kind of correction is not legally valid under the People�s Representation Act�, he claimed.
