Cong-supported candidate wins AP bye election

HATSINGIMARI, Aug 12 - A Congress-supported candidate has won the Fulerchar AP member seat under Fekamari Anchalik Panchayat of South Salmara Mankachar district in its bye election held on August 8 last.

The bye election of Fulerchar GP Anchalik Panchayat member seat was held due to the death of Insan Ali Bepari, the AP member, a few months ago. A total of four candidates were in the fray where the Congress-supported candidate Abu Shahinur Reza Akand won by a margin of 1159 votes defeating his nearest contestant Abdul Akher Amin, the candidate supported by Zabed Islam, the ex-MLA of Mankachar. Waliul Islam, the candidate supported by the AIUDF got the third position with 1245 votes. The BJP-supported candidate Ranjit Kr Saha got 871 votes. Out of the total 9595 votes, 6636 votes (69.16%) were polled.
