Cong stir today against govt failure to tackle flood, erosion

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 2 - Opposition Congress party will tomorrow stage protests across the State against what it termed as the failure of the Central and State governments to tackle the flood and erosion problems in Assam.

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) will mark the occasion as Betrayal Day.

The BJP-led Central and State governments failed in taking any concrete measures to tackle the flood and erosion problems in the State. The Central and State governments have even displayed utter negligence in providing relief and assistance to the flood and erosion-affected people, said APCC secretary and spokesperson Rhituporna Konwar.

The party alleged that instead of addressing the flood and erosion problems affecting Assam, the BJP-led governments have over the years been making only false assurances.

Therefore, our party has decided to hold the statewide protest tomorrow to highlight the failure and betrayal of the ruling dispensation in addressing the flood and erosion problems and against the false promises made by the governments at the Centre and in the State. In Guwahati, our State unit president Ripun Bora will himself lead the protest in front of the Rajiv Bhawan at 11 am tomorrow, Konwar added.

Similar events will be held in all parts of the State by the respective block committees of the principal opposition party.
