Cong slams MNF Govt for poor condition of roads

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, Oct 12 - The Opposition Congress today slammed the MNF Government for the poor condition of roads in Mizoram, especially the Silchar-Aizawl National Highway. This is in total contrast to the MNF Governments claims that it had repaired all the roads in the State during a short period of time, the party said.

In a statement, the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee mentioned a private resolution of MNF MLA Zothantluanga passed by the Assembly on June 26 this year, which praised the MNF Government for improving the condition of roads within a short period of time.

The MNF leaders have repeatedly boasted of the improved road conditions in Mizoram since they formed the Government in December last year. Senior Cabinet member and MNF vice president Dr R Lalthangliana also claimed on several occasions that the MNF Government had repaired all the roads in the State within a short period of time.

The actual condition of roads in Mizoram is completely different from the tall claims of the MNF leaders, the Congress party said, and added that this can be witnessed from the condition of the National Highway-306 and the Aizawl-Champhai Road alone.

The Congress release, complete with photos, pointed out that the road between Buichali and Khamrang, a portion of the NH-306 which is the States economic lifeline, has become almost unmotorable.

The Keifang-Champhai portion of the Aizawl-Champhai Road is no better condition. The poor condition of the road has caused a lot of hardships to the people of the eastern parts of Mizoram, it said.
