Cong slams BJP at Diphu political rally

By Correspondent

DIPHU, Feb 26 - The Congress has in recent days intensified its poll campaign in Karbi Anglong district. In a show of strength before its political rivals, a massive rally titled Gandhi Sabha was organized at the Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) playground here, where mis-governance of the BJP was exposed.

In his speech, local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary Bidyasing Engleng asked all the booth-level Congress workers and other leaders to acknowledge the welfare activities implemented during the Congress regime. Engleng asked the workers to campaign vigorously against the BJP.

It is primarily the Congress which has done development works for the collective welfare of the people. On the other hand, the BJP is only cheating the people. In fact, different welfare funds have been curtailed by the Narendra Modi-led BJP Government at the Centre, said Engleng.

Engleng also criticized the HSDC party for covertly changing its name before every election only to mislead the common voters and also to gain political mileage.

While addressing the Gandhi Sabha, Tuliram Ronghang, CEM of KAAC vehemently criticized BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary. Ronghang claimed that the Boro people in Karbi Anglong will never follow the dictation of Mohilary in the ensuing Assembly election. The Congress has always been working with them, and their support will remain with the Congress, Ronghang claimed.

Attacking the BJP, the CEM of KAAC said that the saffron party only promises to resolve problems, but does nothing in practical. In fact, the Congress is the only party which is committed to ensure peace, development and tranquility for the welfare of all, Ronghang justified.

Ronghang also attacked the HSDC, saying that during the ASDC-CPI(ML) regime, many common Karbi people were misled and lost their lives and property in the name of autonomous State movement. The people were even not allowed to meet or visit residences to each other. Violence spread everywhere within the district if their dictation was not followed. Now the same leaders are running a new party called HSDC, which only changes its nomenclature, but their principles are the same, Ronghang added.

The Congress will emerge victorious with four seats in Karbi Anglong. No one can obstruct it, Ronghang speculated.

MP Biren Sing Engti also addressed the Gandhi Sabha and claimed that the Congress will wrest power yet again in the State. Further, the Congress will capture four Assembly seats in Karbi Anglong as it has always concentrated on the development agenda.

It may be mentioned here that before starting the Gandhi Sabha, a memorandum was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking immediate solution of major issues like special category State status to Assam, which it has been enjoying since 1969, restoration of the 90:10 Central funding pattern, restoration of the suspended North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy, implementation of decisions of the Central Government on formation of the North East Brahmaputra River Valley Authority for the purpose of controlling floods and land erosion in Assam, besides special funding system that are enjoyed by a few select districts of Assam under the backward area region fund of the Central Government.
