Cong single largest party in Manipur ADC polls

IMPHAL, June 11 � The ruling Indian National Congress (INC) has emerged as the single largest party in the Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls in Manipur as out of 144 seats across six ADCs where results were declared on Thursday the party won as many as 46 seats. The Cong is closely followed by opposition Naga People�s Front (NPF) with 43 seats.

INC which won 106 seats in the last ADC polls, bagged the maximum number of seats in Sadar Hills (17), followed by 11 in Chandel, 10 in Tamenglong, five in Churachandpur, two in Ukhrul and one in Senapati. On the other hand, NPF got 17 seats in Ukhrul, followed by 11 in Senapati, eight in Tamenglong, five in Chandel and two in Sadar Hills. The NPF drew a blank in Churachandpur ADC.

The BJP which fielded 120 candidates, managed to get just 21 seats including eight in Senapati, five in Tamenglong, four in Sadar Hills, two in Chandel and one each in Churachandpur and Ukhrul ADCs.

Independent candidates outnumbered BJP as a total of 34 were elected against 23 in the last ADC polls.
