Cong seeks BPF support for Assembly polls

By Correspondent

BONGAIGAON, Nov 30 The Congress party will field its candidates in the BTAD in the forthcoming Assembly polls and BTC chief Hagrama Mahilary will extend his cooperation like in the previous elections.

Stating this at a public meeting held at the Lakhi Mandir at Bijni in Chirang district on Saturday, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that if BPF fielded its candidates in the non-BTAD constituencies, the party would gain nothing.

The minister said that his party has been maintaining good relations with the BPF. He requested the BTC chief to implement government welfare schemes for the poor people, who are basically Congress supporters, in the BTAD.

The Health Minister promised to provide better health services to the local residents of Bijni area.

The Chirang District Congress Committee organised the public meeting in a bid to regain the confidence of the people in the Congress as the party has almost lost its base in the BTAD after the BTC polls.
