SILCHAR, March 16 - Not willing to take any chances after the humiliating defeat in the 2014 bypolls, the AICC on Tuesday gave Bithika Dev, former MLA and wife of former Union Minister Santosh Mohan Dev the poll ticket to contest from the prestigious Silchar constituency. She is also the mother of Silchar MP Susmita Dev.
Bithika Dev, who represented Silchar in the Assam Assembly from 2006-2011 is presently in New Delhi with her husband who is recovering from ailing health. Talking to this correspondent, Dev said that she is happy to know that the AICC has considered her name to contest from the Silchar constituency. �I have been receiving a lot of phone calls from people who want me to come back to lead them,� Dev said sharing her happiness.
She added to say that despite not representing Silchar for 10 long years, she was very much involved in the activities of the party. �Silchar witnessed significant development during the tenure of Susmita Dev as the chairperson of Silchar Municipal Board and also as an MLA. My priorities will be to complete the works which Susmita could not during her tenure,� Dev maintained. It is to be mentioned that Bithika Dev became the MLA from Silchar defeating popular BJP leader and MLA late Bimalangshu Roy in the 2006 Assembly elections.
