Cong releases first list of names for Arunachal Assembly polls

ITANAGAR, March 24 - With barely a day left for filing of nominations, the Congress late Saturday evening released its first list of 53 candidates for the ensuing Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh. The State goes to Assembly polls simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections on April 11.

The leading names in the list includes those of former Chief Minister and sitting MLA Nabam Tuki from Sagalee constituency, State Congress president Takam Sanjoy from Lekang, and CLP leader and sitting MLA Takam Pario from Palin seat. Tuki is also the Congress nominee from the Arunachal West Parliamentary constituency.

MP Ninong Ering, who represented Arunachal East in the 16th Lok Sabha, will be contesting this time from Pasighat West Assembly constituency and former Minister Bosiram Siram from the Pasighat East seat.

Former Home Minister Tanga Byaling will contest from Nacho constituency in Upper Subansiri district, while former BJP leader and adviser to Chief Minister, Wanglin Lowangdong will fight the polls from Borduria-Bogapani seat in Tirap district.

Among the 53 candidates in the list, there are four women nominees � former Minister Komoli Mossang for Nampong Assembly seat, Dayum Para for Tali, Yaman Bagra for Aalo West and Marina Kenglang for Changlang North seat.

The Congress is yet to name candidates for the remaining seven seats.

It may be mentioned here that the ruling BJP has already announced its candidates for all 60 Assembly seats, the National People�s Party has named 33, Janata Dal (Secular) 17, Janata Dal (United) 15 and the People�s Party of Arunachal has fielded nine candidates for the April 11 polls.

The last date for filing of nominations is March 25, scrutiny will take place on March 26 and the last date of withdrawal of candidature is March 28.
