Cong playing vote bank politics: Gadkari

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 5 The saffron party began its campaign for the coming Assembly elections in 2011 with its new president Nitin Gadkari appealing to the people of the State and the party workers to oust the ruling Congress from power.

Gadkari, on his maiden visit to the State, addressed a public rally today at the Sonaram High School ground which was attended by senior party leaders including MP and national vice president Bijoya Chakravorty and thousands of supporters.

Extending his Rongali Bihu greetings to the people of Assam, Gadkari said that he was privileged to be in a State where heroes like Lachit Borphukan, who made the supreme sacrifice for their motherland, were born. Lauding the contribution of the sons of the soil who laid down their lives to save their motherland from the invasion of foreigners, Gadkari said that this tradition had no meaning to a political party like the Congress which was continuously compromising on the integrity and security of Assam by ignoring the vexed foreigners issue.

The issue of influx is not a serious matter for the Congress that has been playing vote bank politics at the cost of the State and its people, rued Gadkari.

Gadkari asserted that the BJP would never compromise on the security and sovereignty of the country and hence the foreigners issue would always have topmost priority in its agenda. Whether we lose or win an election, the interest of the country will be foremost with the BJP, claimed Gadkari, adding that the BJP was committed to changing the concept of politics that presently was degraded by a few parties including the Congress. We want politics for development and progress, he said.

Referring to the remarks of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi made in connection to the recently held Rajya Sabha election, Gadkari said that it was unfortunate for the State and the people to have such a Chief Minister who was talking like a dacoit. He said that if the BJP gets the mandate of the people in 2011, the party will purge the corrupt system and revolutionise the economic scenario of the State through agriculture development and employment generation.

Gadkari also lambasted the wrong economic policies of the Congress which, according to him were behind all the misfortunes befalling the common men which even are compelling the farmers to commit suicide.
