Cong now a notional party: Naidu

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 19 - Senior BJP leader and Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has accused the opposition Congress of launching a misinformation campaign as it was not able to digest the reality (of subsequent electoral defeats).

Elections in 2004 and 2009 were held through EVMs. Then the machines were okay as they won. This time the BJP won, and so the EVMs have become bad. If it is so then what happened in Biharin Punjab? Naidu said.

Hitting out at the opponents for blaming the Central government for each and every incident related to law and order in the states, Naidu insisted that law and order is a state subject and the Central government intervenes only in exceptional cases.

Questioning what the Congress did for the country in the last fifty years, Naidu said, They have been talking about poverty alleviationabout minority development. But what had they actually done? People have now realised the real facet of the Congress. Even minorities have started supporting the BJP. People now believe that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi can bring in development.

Alleging that the Congress has lost its niti and riti, he said there is no democracy within the party. Now they are talking about leadership change. But the fact is that it has been run by a single dynasty over the last several years. It is a one-family party. Even if they replace the president, they will taste the same (poll) results. It is a sinking ship.

The Union Minister said the present NDA government at the Centre has brought in some historic legislations like GST, new mining policy etc., and claimed that the BJP is poised to expand its hold in other states, including Meghalaya and Mizoram in the North East.

Even their own leaders are disillusioned now. They are leaving the Congress and joining us. The Congress has been reduced to a notional party now, Naidu said.
