Cong not well aware of quarantine SOP: BJP

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 25 - The ruling BJP today accused the Congress of making baseless allegations regarding the quarantine guidelines.

Addressing a press conference here, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass said, The opposition has not gone through the Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) and the guidelines. In the SOP, it is clearly mentioned that Union Ministers need to be quarantined when they visit a state. In addition, state-level politicians can also visit another state if they possess a COVID-negative certificate and if they travel by chartered flight and return on the same day. Those in the opposition, who are making these allegations, are not aware of the details.

Dass was responding to comments made by some opposition leaders, who had earlier demanded that State Health Minister and NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma be put under quarantine as he had visited Manipur at a time when the country is yet to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sarma had a COVID-negative certificate when he visited Manipur and he also returned the same day. As such, why four times, he (Sarma) can even travel 20 times, said Dass.

Meanwhile, the State BJP observed the 45th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency today as Black Day.

Dass said the BJP will hold a series of programmes till June 27 across the State to make the people, especially the younger generation, aware of the Emergency and the authoritarian rule of the Indira Gandhi regime.
