Cong nominees papers rejected

By Correspondent

ITANAGAR, Nov 3 - The nomination papers of Congress nominee, Er Lupalum Kri, for the bye-election to Hayuliang Assembly constituency in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, were rejected after scrutiny today, leaving three candidates in the fray for the bye-poll slated for November 19 next.

After scrutiny of nominations done in the office of Returning Officer at Hayuliang, the papers of three candidates, including BJPs Dasanglu Pul, wife of former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul, and two independents Yompi Kri and Konteso Kri, were found valid.

The nomination papers of Lupalum Kri were rejected as his documents were not found proper during scrutiny, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer DJ Bhattacharjee said here.

The last date of withdrawal of candidature is November 5, the Dy Chief Electoral Officer informed.

The Hayuliang Assembly seat had fallen vacant after the demise of former Chief Minister Pul on August 9 last.

Meanwhile, opposition Congress, which launched a three-day hunger strike in protest against the State Governments alleged dilly-dallying tactics in clearing its candidate Er Lupalum Kris application for VRS this morning, called off its agitation midway following rejection of his candidature by RO, Hayuliang.

It was done by RO through fraudulent means on the behest of the incumbent Govt., which exposes their weakness and ill intention, alleged Congress spokesperson Hayeng Mangfi.

By resorting to forceful rejection of the contesting Cong candidate, the NEDA Government has stooped to such a level that even the common man can conclude that they are scared of fighting in the electoral battle, alleged the Congress spokesperson.

He, however, said that his party shall not stop voicing against their authoritarian attitude and will seek justice from the appellate authority in the days to come.
