Cong MLAs stage protest in Assembly

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 28 - The Congress MLAs of Assam today staged a protest by laying down in front of the entrance of the State Assembly hall following their walkout over the issue of CAB and NRC.

Speaking to the media, former Chief Minister and Congress MLA Tarun Gogoi said that the CAB was an assault on the culture and language of the Assamese people, and hence the issue needed to be discussed in the Assembly.

The BJP-led government doesnt want to discuss the topic in the House, because they have no intention to protect the Assamese people. But, the Congress is always committed to protecting the interests of the Assamese people and will never compromise in this regard, Gogoi said.

Slamming the State government, Gogoi said the CAB would render the Assam Accord null and void.

Congress MLA and Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislative Party, Rakibul Hussain stated that if the Congress comes to power in 2021, then it will immediately withdraw the CAB and work for a perfect and errorless NRC.
