IMPHAL, Nov 12 - A Congress legislator of Manipur has expressed discontentment over the return of the team led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh from New Delhi without meeting the Prime Minister in connection with the Naga peace talks.
On Monday, more Opposition Congress MLAs joined the alert protests under the aegis of the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) for safeguarding the territorial integrity of the State.
Joining the alert protest at Sagolband here, sitting Congress MLA RK Imo stated that the assurance given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Manipurs territorial integrity would not be able to allay the fears of the people in the State.
The Congress leader said that the Union Home Ministers reported assurance without disclosing the points agreed upon during the Naga peace talks would not be accepted by the public here.
During the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the team led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh should have exerted pressure on him to disclose the agreed points of the peace talks, Imo said.
Since the Union Home Minister failed to do so, the State Government team should have met the Prime Minister before returning to Imphal, he added.
The Congress legislator called upon the people of all communities to stand united at this crucial stage.
In another alert protest during which a human chain was formed by hundreds of people on the road in the Khurai area of Imphal East district, normal traffic along NH-150 was disrupted for a few hours.
Students and women took part in the protest programme during which all shops and business establishments remained closed. A large number of security personnel were deployed to check any untoward incident.
Taking part in the protest, COCOMI assistant coordinator Jitendra Ningomba said that the Committee is apprehensive that the Centre may create problems in Manipur. He reiterated COCOMIs demand that the contents of the agreed points of the peace talks should be disclosed.
Even if the Centre does not disturb Manipurs territory but makes ethnic-based administrative arrangements such as a territorial council, this would impact the territorial integrity of Manipur, he maintained.
