Cong MLA accuses own Govt of failure

By Raju Das

SHILLONG, March 19 - A Congress legislator accused his own Government of failing miserably, after Chief Minister Mukul Sangma couldnt furnish details of incomplete Centrally sponsored projects in the Assembly.

Chief Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and MLA from Mawsynram, PN Syiem has been having a running feud with Sangma. He took the opportunity to take a swipe at Sangma once again.

Syiem rose to ask a supplementary question during Question Hour on Thursday and stated: this Government has failed miserably. A defensive Chief Minister then urged his party legislator not to make sweeping statements. Sweeping remarks are not acceptable, Sangma retorted.

The question was asked by Paul Lyngdoh, Opposition member from United Democratic Party. He inquired whether Centrally sponsored schemes were not being completed on account of failure to furnish progress report and utilisation certificates.

The Chief Minister said, information is being collected. Syiem interjected with his supplementary question taking on the Government led by his party. He was gleefully watched by the entire opposition.

Syiem insisted when would the Government provide the details to the questions and sought a definite timeframe in this regard.

The Chief Minster citing rules said he has the right to take time to furnish the information sought for. I want to ensure that accurate information is given, the Chief Minister said.

This is the second time both have engaged in a heated discussion during the ongoing Budget session. The two Congress legislators have reportedly tried to unseat each other unsuccessfully last year.
