GUWAHATI, March 24 - Chief Minister and leader of the Assam Congress Legislative Party (ACLP) Tarun Gogoi today released the partys poll manifesto here at Rajiv Bhawan, asserting that the Congress has the right vision to take Assam forward.

The 54-page manifesto, besides highlighting the achievements of the Congress government in the last 15 years, also assured to effect all-round development of the State encompassing all the sectors, including health, education, power and PWD, among others.

Alleging that both the BJP and AIUDF are resorting to poll planks on religion lines, Gogoi said, The Congresss slogan will be Ekla Chalo this time. Both the BJP and AIUDF are forces detrimental to the composite structure of the society. The Congress party has a rich legacy and every religion is seen with the same eye.

Rubbishing claims, Gogoi said that the anti-incumbency factor will not hold good for his party purely because of its track record in the last 15 years.

Quoting the excerpts of the manifesto, Gogoi further stated that if voted to power, the government will lay maximum stress on job creation and steps will also be taken to give employment to at least one member of every family.

We also have plans to provide financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to the unemployed in a phased manner with special preference to the needy families, he said.

The people of Assam are politically conscious and they know whom to vote. They know what the scene was before 2001? With the BJP in Delhi and the AGP at Dispur, the State had seen the darkest period, he stated.

We managed to bring back normalcy in the State. From containing insurgency to improving economy, the Congress managed to put the development process on track. We ensured that no innocent life was lost unlike what had happened during the AGP regime where innocent people were killed in the name of containing insurgent activities, the ACLP leader said.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Anjan Dutta asserted that the pace of developmental works would reach newer heights if the Congress government is voted to power for the fourth consecutive time.

Earlier, several members of the BJP, Bajrang Dal, NCP and AAMSU formally joined the Congress at the party headquarters.
