Cong lodges FIR against Himanta

GUWAHATI, Nov 9 - The state Congress today lodged an FIR against senior BJP leader and Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly �making communally-sensitive remarks.�

APCC general secretary Ranjan Bora lodged the FIR at Bhangagarh police station.

The FIR stated that Sarma made some remarks in social media with an intention to create religious tension between two communities through misleading statement and false Facebook post.

�He claimed that at Silchar airport, some persons shouted �Pakistan zindabad� slogans while welcoming a political leader. The said post was flagged by Facebook, as third party fact checkers found the content to be false,� the FIR stated, adding that Sarma repeated the false information in different public forums.

�The accused person has a habit of making loose and communally-sensitive statements and at a time when assembly elections are round the corner, such statements may create communal tension. Therefore to maintain peace, the arrest of the said accused person is of utmost importance so that he can be restrained from indulging in activities prejudicial to communal harmony,� the FIR stated.
