NAGAON, Jan 25: The opposition Congress sounded the poll bugle at an ‘Ekta Samaroh’ organised by the Youth Congress at the Ambagan Jagaddhatri Pujabari field under Samaguri constituency on Sunday, where several national as well as State heavyweight leaders from all wings of the party participated.

Inaugurating the meet, APCC chief and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, slamming the recent visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to the State, said it is ironical that both the saffron party leaders could remember the people of Assam just ahead of the ensuing election, and not during the crucial time of flood, erosion and the pandemic.

Bora stated that Assam, the richest State of ‘Asta Lakshmi’ in the country as had been described earlier by Modi, has now turned into the poorest State. He also termed Modi and his party as deceivers.

Attending the meet, MP Gaurab Gogoi said the BJP-led coalition governments at the Centre and in the State have never thought about the poor people, for which during the tenure of the BJP-led governments, the poor people in the State as well as in the country have become poorer while the rich have become richer.

Criticizing the fascist activities of the ruling alliance against the democratic movements initiated by student organizations, Gogoi said the BJP is afraid of the democratic movements and hence wants to crush all forms of agitations across the State.

Gogoi, however, urged the president of Assam Jatiya Parishad, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, and Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi to merge with the grand alliance of Congress-AIUDF so that the alliance can oust the saffron party from power.

Attending the event as the chief guest, president of the All India Youth Congress Committee Srinivas BV said the Centre has deceived the youths of the entire country with false promises over job creation. The Modi government is working only for the corporate, he said.

All India Mahila Congress President Sushmita Deb and senior leaders Rakibul Hussain, Dr Durlav Chamua, Mira Borthakur and others also spoke.
