Cong leader Pradip Dutta Roy to join BJP

By Correspondent

SILCHAR, Aug 27 - Disgusted with the dynasty rule of the Congress even at the district level, a long-term Congressman and former general secretary of the State unit of Congress party, Pradip Dutta Roy, has announced that he will be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) soon.

Announcing his decision before the media here on Tuesday, he said that the Congress party is nothing but a party obsessed with dynasty politics. Referring to the days of late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, Dutta Roy said that the practice to promote the dynasty began during Nehru regime and it is in practice even today.

He said that in Assam, the father-son duo of Tarun Gogoi and Gaurav Gogoi and in this valley it is the Dev family, starting from Satindra Mohan Dev to Sontosh Mohan Dev, Bithika Dev and now Susmita Dev, who are carrying the baton forward.

I have dedicatedly worked for the party for 30 years. I never got any recognition or appreciation from the party. There is no value for commitment and dedication in a power-hungry party. Disgusted with the prevailing situation, I had decided to come out of the Congress bracket in January this year, Dutta Roy said. However, he is yet to announce when he will formally join the BJP.

Asked what led him to choose the BJP which is branded as a communal party, Dutta Roy said, It is the Congress which is hell-bent to tarnish the image of the BJP by referring it as a communal party.

Firmly brushing aside the communal tag from the BJP, Dutta Roy said, Narendra Modi-led Government is working for the welfare of people of the country, irrespective of caste, creed and community and minorities are supporting the Prime Minister from day one. With such a broad approach for the development of the nation and welfare of the people cutting across religious lines, the BJP by no stretch of imagination is a communal party.

However, Dutta Roy cautioned that Barak Valley could be a possible target of the Maoists in the coming days. He said that he had warned about Maoists presence in the valley on earlier occasions as well as the recent arrests of top Maoist leaders reconfirms his claim.
