SILCHAR, Oct 29 - Hirak Chakraborty, former municipal commissioner, veteran leader of the Congress and a resident of Public School Road here, passed away at a hospital in Kolkata on Wednesday around 11.30 pm.
According to sources, he was 63 years old and undergoing treatment for cancer. He is survived by his two daughters. It may be mentioned here that Chakraborty�s wife Shikha Chakraborty, a teacher at Netaji Bidya Bhawan Girls� High School, had died following a cardiac arrest 18 days ago.
Chakraborty was known for his humane concern and helpful gestures. He was also the former president of Dakshin Bilpar Durga Puja Committee.
