DIPHU, Oct 13 - In the run-up to the upcoming Assembly elections, the Congress party has started intensive campaign in the hill district of Karbi Anglong. To strengthen their political ground, rallies, public meetings and door-to-door campaigns have been started under the leadership of Hills Area Development (HAD) Minister, Kharsing Engti, and Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang.
On Monday too, a large rally was organised at tea tribe dominated areas like Jurapukhuri village near Howraghat town. The crowd of local tribals in traditional attires warmly welcomed the HAD Minister, CEM of KAAC and Executive Member of KAAC Premala Beypi. Various traditional dances and songs were performed by the local youths on the occasion.
While addressing the gathering at the Congress rally, Ronghang thanked and welcomed the people for their support to the Congress party.
He said that the BJP was spreading false propaganda against the Congress among common people. He said that there was no reality in the propaganda of the BJP.
Seeking public support, he appealed to the people to assist Congress to provide equal rights and equal facilities for the tribals. Ronghang also declared to construct Birsa Munda Memorial Hall and children�s park at Jurapukhuri soon.
Criticising the BJP, HAD Minister Engti said that no change was witnessed in the country as committed to bring �Good Day� by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Even, the historic social development schemes designed during the tenure of Congress Government has been stopped by the NDA Government.
He said that the BJP was selling false dreams among the people only to woo common people�s votes. While speaking on various social problems of different communities, Engti assured to solve the problems of every community in the district gradually. He said that unity is must for every caste and community for equal development and peace.
Highlighting various Government development schemes, Engti appealed to the people to be united and support the Congress party.
It needs to be may mentioned here that Engti has been showing his political strength since the last several decades at Howraghat. No other opposition party could snatch the Howraghat LA and MAC seat from Kharsing Engti because of getting support from non-Karbi voters.
