Cong holds meet for poll preparedness in Assam

NEW DELHI, Feb 2: The AICC on Tuesday held a brainstorming session with select leaders of Assam Congress to review its election preparedness and formulate the party’s strategy.

The meeting, chaired by AICC general secretary in-charge Jitendra Singh, was attended by PCC chief Ripun Bora, Rockibul Hussain, Pradyut Bordoloi, Debobrata Saikia and Gaurav Gogoi.

Talking to newsmen, Assam Congress president, Ripun Bora said that key leaders of Assam have been invited to the meeting which discussed our preparedness to face the election. The meeting discussed about our strategy for election campaigning, progress of the manifesto committee, etc. All technical points were discussed.

About the dissatisfaction among MLAs, he said that it is natural because there are many contenders for party tickets and those who do not get tickets will naturally be dissatisfied.

“Himanta Biswa Sarma dreams about Bangladesh. Ghost of Bangladesh is chasing Himanta. Our target is 101+,” Bora asserted.

All issues will be discussed with the alliance partners, he said, declining to comment on statement by alliance partners.

Lok Sabha MP Pradyut Bordoloi told newsmen that the meeting was held with chairman of the Committees to discuss their strategy. “We discussed about how the campaign is to be taken forward and how party proposes to reach the people,” he added.

Stating that there are no differences within the party and the party is working towards making the grand alliance a success. “We have to defeat the design of the BJP and the bid to destroy the social fabric by the ruling party,” he said.

Debobrata Saikia said that poll dates will be announced soon and what will be the issues and what issues we are going to take to the people were discussed in the meeting. “The party wanted to know what the position of the BJP is in Assam.

When asked about distribution, Saikia said that it did not figure when he was in the meeting, as he left half way through. About those who left the party in the recent past, he said that there is nothing that can be done as what is past is past.

Meanwhile, the AICC has appointed Akash Satyawali and Gaurav Kapoor as State in-charge for Assam. AICC today also appointed national coordinators and convenors of inter-State initiative.
