Cong high command summons Anjan Dutta

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 22 A day after dissident leader Himanta Biswa Sarma submitted his resignation, the Congress high command has summoned senior legislator Anjan Dutta to take stock of the ongoing crisis in the State.

Dutta, along with Nazira MLA Debabrata Saikia has already reached New Delhi and is expected to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi tomorrow.

Sources in the Gogoi camp told this reporter that the AICC is committed to putting an end to the ongoing crisis very soon even if that would mean taking some harsh decisions.

Meanwhile, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee has condemned the manner in which dissident leader Himanta Biswa Sarma had chosen to submit his resignation papers.

APCC spokesperson Mehdi Alam Bora told mediapersons that it was unfortunate to see Sarma making some objectionable comments against the Chief Minister and such an act has set a wrong precedent in the Congress party.

Under no circumstances can a Congress MLA make his exclusive group and each one of them would have to abide by the decision of the Congress Legislative Party, Bora said.

Answering a question, he asserted that Sarmas decision to quit will not affect the party in any way.

At a time when the AICC has decided to continue with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Sarmas comments clearly amounted to violation of the partys code of conduct. We are sure that the AICC would take a decision in the greater interest of the country, Bora said.
