TINSUKIA, June 26 � In view of the results of the last Parliamentary elections in which the Bharatiya Janata Party swept all the Assembly constituency segments of Tinsukia district, which was known as a stronghold of the Congress party since Independence, the Congress party does not want to leave any stone unturned for the ensuing Assembly elections.
The party has launched its campaign in Tinsukia district in a big way. To activate the party workers at the grass-root level, two meetings were organised on June 23 in which the State president of the party, Anjan Dutta and the president of the Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress, Shahnaz Yasmin Haque along with many party stalwarts addressed the workers. In the meeting held at Bangiya Dugabari hall, Anjan Dutta appealed to the workers to go to the people and to explain to them in details about the good work done by the Government in all spheres, viz., education, agriculture, health, employment etc., in the last four years and also that the party has many new plans and programmes for the welfare of the people.
He also spoke as to how the BJP has taken big U-turns regarding all its pre-election promises. The meetings were also attended by Pranati Phukon, former Minister and MLA of Naharkatiya, MLAs of Chabua, Tinsukia and Sadiya, Raju Sahu, RP Singh and Bolin Chetia respectively besides district-level office-bearers of the party. Shahnaz Yasmin Haque, president, APMC was given a warm welcome by the district Mahila Congress at the District Library hall. A meeting was held here also which was addressed by Anjan Dutta, besides other leaders.
