Cong for Andersons extradition

By The Assam Tribune

NEW DELHI, June 9 The ruling Congress Wednesday said the government should make every effort to extradite from the US Warren Anderson, the CEO of Union Carbide when the Bhopal gas tragedy took place in 1984, report Agencies.

The Congress is of the firm opinion that the extradition process should be completed and he (Anderson) should be brought back. We hope government will take it to its logical conclusion, Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said. She asked the government to take all steps to ensure that the perpetrators of the tragedy had been brought to book.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to file an appeal against the disappointing verdict in the Bhopal gas tragedy case, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said today.

The BJP government in the State will constitute a committee to study the legal aspects before going in for the appeal, he said.

The much-awaited verdict in the Bhopal gas tragedy case is disappointing.

Since people of Bhopal are victims in this case and they are represented by the state government, we have decided to file an appeal to get justice for the victims and to increase the sentence of the convicts, Chouhan told reporters here.
