ITANAGAR, Sept 24 � The ruling Congress in Arunachal Pradesh has announced Gabriel Denwang Wangsu as its official candidate for the October 15 bye-election at Kanubari Assembly constituency in the State.

The name of Wangsu, a journalist-turned-politician, was cleared by the party last night, informed the vice president of Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) TC Tok. He had unsuccessfully contested the 2009 and 2014 Assembly polls from the same seat.

The bypoll was necessitated after the Kanubari seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Newlai Tingkhatra days before he was declared winner in the April 9, 2014 polls. The former Minister died of a massive brain stroke in a Gurgaon hospital on May 7 last.
