Cong fielded criminal candidates: BJP

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 26 - Reacting sharply to APCC president Anjan Duttas claim that the party is going to form the Government again, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh, on Tuesday stated that the remarks of the APCC president is simply a futile attempt to mask certain defeat.

The BJP also slammed Dutta for his comment that the BJP-AGP-BPF alliance gave tickets to individuals against whom there were serious allegations of murder and extortion and reminded the Congress that even its State leadership along with its candidates were accused of serious crimes, including murder.

Addressing mediapersons here, BJP Assam spokesperson Rupam Goswami said that the State Congress has already sensed its defeat and is now resorting to all sorts of stratagems, including vain attempts to glorify its image and performance.

The Congress leadership is making itself a laughing stock before the people by making illogical comments. They are desperate because defeat is certain. The counting on May 19 will prove all calculations of the Congress wrong, said Goswami.

On the other hand, Goswami said that the Congress is a party full of corrupt and accused leaders, who have many cases registered against them. He reminded Anjan Dutta that Abul Kalam Rasheed Alam, of the INC contesting from Goalpara East constituency has declared cases related to murder (Indian Penal Code sections 302 and 303). Goswami also pointed out that A Rahim Ahmed of the INC contesting from Barpeta constituency has declared cases related to kidnapping or abducting registered under IPC 365. In fact, most of the Congress candidates have serious allegations against them. The Congress leaders too have serious allegations like murder against them. Even it is alleged that Anjan Dutta has maintained link with Putul Gogoi, infamous for oil pilfering and Duttas name is also allegedly involved with murder of his maid, said Goswami, adding that those living in glass houses should not throw stones at others.

This is a party which only believes in family centric politics and has no place for common people, said Goswami.

BJP Minority Morcha president, Mominul Aowal, accused the Congress and the AIUDF of promoting Islamist extremism in the State and providing a cover to these unlawful activities.
